In a big diplomatic success for Pakistan in UNGA, Pakistan’s sponsored resolution adopted with consensus

ISLAMABAD – The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a resolution withconsensus welcoming the inauguration of landmark Kartarpur corridor betweenPakistan and India.

The resolution was sponsored by Pakistan and the Philippines on promotinginterreligious and intercultural dialogue to advance a culture of peace.

The resolution said the opening of the peace corridor to Sikhism’s holiestshrines is in the spirit of interfaith harmony and peaceful neighbourhood.

The General Assembly also appreciated the agreement between Pakistan andIndia to allow visa-free access to pilgrims of all faiths, especially theSikh community from across the world.

Prime Minister Imran Khan performed the opening ceremony of Kartarpurcorridor on November 9, before a huge gathering of pilgrims from across theworld, marking the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru NanakDev.

Later talking to APP, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN Munir Akram said theGeneral Assembly’s resolution reflects the level of internationalappreciation for the decision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He said the message has gone loud and clear that who is working for peacein the region and whose actions pose greatest threat to it, obviouslyreferring to India’s illegal and provocative actions in occupied Kashmir.
