ISLAMABAD – CJP Justice Asif Saeed Khosa breaks silence over the COASGeneral Qamar Bajwa extension case.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa on Saturday said that theSupreme Court (SC) would issue a detailed judgement regarding the extensionin Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa’s tenure before hisretirement.
He was talking with journalists during a conference at the Federal JudicialAcademy (FJA) in the federal capital.
It may be noted here that Khosa, who became the CJP in January last year,is retiring on December 20.
Meanwhile, journalist Matiullah Jan claimed in a YouTube video that thedetailed verdict would be issued either on Monday or Tuesday. “The judgesare giving final touches to the detailed verdict. We are aiming to issue iton Monday; otherwise, it will be given on Tuesday,” he quoted the chiefjustice as saying.
Earlier in November, the SC had suspended a notification issued by theprime minister in August for Gen Qamar’s reappointment till 2022 citingprocedural loopholes.
It directed the federal government to legislate and remove lacunae in thereappointment/extension of tenure of an army chief within six months.
The ruling averted a crisis as the army chief was set to retire on thenight between November 26 and 27. The government is waiting for thedetailed verdict before deciding whether to go for a review or legislate onthe matter.
