LAHORE – Change of command has taken place in the Punjab Police immediatelyafter the by elections 2018.
Amjad Javed Saleemi took charge as Punjab police chief on Monday.
He took charge as Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) a day after theby-polls and the federal government’s decision regarding the appointment ofthe police chief went in effect.
Amjad Saleemi has replaced Tahir Khan as IGP Punjab.
Last week Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on suspended thegovernment’s decision to replace Punjab police chief Tahir Khan, statingthat the police chief replacement would be considered a violation of theECP rules due to the by-polls.
On September 9, Amjad Javed Saleemi appointed the Inspector General Punjab(IGP) Police and a notification to this effect has also been issued by theEstablishment Division.
