Former Punjab Chief Minister Perviaz Elahi secured bail from ananti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Friday. Elahi had been in custody overalleged involvement in the attack on the Judicial Complex in Islamabad inMarch this year, coinciding with PTI chairman Imran Khan’s appearance in acase. ATC Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain granted bail to Elahi and requiredhim to submit surety bonds amounting to Rs20,000.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor informed the judge that Elahi’sarrest was based on information from an informant, and the sections appliedin the FIR did not permit bail. However, after the prosecutor presented hisarguments, Judge Zulqurnain began delivering the judgment in open court.
The judge concluded that Elahi had not even been named in the FIR relatedto the case for which he was arrested. Furthermore, he noted that theinvestigation had not yielded any substantial findings despite Elahi’sthree-day remand. Consequently, he ordered Elahi’s release on bail, withthe condition of submitting surety bonds.
