Pakistan and China to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of information and communication technology

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China may expand bilateral cooperation in the fieldof information and communication technology (ICT) in the near future as thefederal cabinet is likely to give a go-ahead for this partnership.

According to sources, the federal cabinet in its Tuesday meeting is likelyto approve a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and it’s signingbetween Ministry of Industry and IT of China and the Ministry of IT andTelecommunication (MoIT&T) of Pakistan.

The IT minister has already seen and authorized the submission of a summaryregarding the MoU to the cabinet in order to accomplish the vision of PrimeMinister Imran Khan on promotion and advancement of ICT.

Sources said that Chinese Embassy had already shared a draft MoU withPakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), which then shared the draftMoU with MoIT&T and intimated that the Chinese side has proposed to signit.

The draft MoU was viewed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry ofLaw and Justice and, so far, the MoFA has communicated no objection onsigning of MoU while the ministry of law has vetted the draft from itslegal point of view.
