Pakistan Foreign Minister makes an offer to Afghanistan President

*ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi visited Kabul today onthe invitation of the Afghan Foreign Minister.*

*He held important meetings with the Afghanistan President and ChiefExecutive Officer.*

*He has offered to train Afghan police in Pakistan in a meeting withPresident Ashraf Ghani.*

The first meeting between Pakistan’s new foreign minister and the Afghanpresident was supposed to be 45 mins but according to reports appears tohave run on for an hour and 35 minutes.

Mr Qureshi and President Ghani discussed issues of mutual interest andreturn of Afghan migrants to their homeland.

The Foreign Minister invited President to visit Pakistan and the offer wasaccepted by Mr Ghani.

Qureshi arrived in Kabul Sept 15, Saturday, for his first official visitafter taking office. It is a one-day trip.

He was scheduled to meet his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani,President Ashraf Ghani and chief executive Abdullah Abdullah. He isaccompanied by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua.

His visit comes barely two weeks after the Americans came to Pakistan. Thetiming matters, as we all know.

On September 5, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo along with Chairman ofthe Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford met Pakistan’s civil andmilitary leaders (Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army chief General QamarJaved Bajwa).

Pompeo said afterwards that they talked about business ties and ending thewar in Afghanistan.
