PCB Raises Match Fees and Salaries—Public Left Stunned

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed the financial breakdown of national players’ earnings under the latest central contracts, highlighting substantial match fees and monthly retainers for top-performing cricketers.

According to the contract structure, Pakistan’s centrally contracted players now receive a match fee of Rs 12.57 lakh per Test, Rs 6.44 lakh per ODI, and Rs 4.18 lakh per T20I. In addition to these match fees, players are also entitled to monthly salaries that vary depending on their category.

Category A cricketers, which usually includes the senior-most and consistent performers, are paid Rs 45 lakh per month, while those in Category B receive Rs 30 lakh per month.

The revised contracts place greater emphasis on rewarding Test cricket, reflecting the format’s significance and the higher demands on players’ fitness and endurance. At the same time, lucrative retainers ensure financial stability for players regardless of the number of matches they play in a given month.

Analysts note that Pakistan’s player earnings remain competitive in South Asia, although still behind India’s contracts, where match fees and endorsements significantly boost overall income. Nonetheless, the PCB’s move signals its commitment to valuing players and ensuring they remain motivated amid an increasingly packed international calendar.

The updated salary structure is also seen as a step to retain top talent within Pakistan’s cricket ecosystem, particularly as franchise leagues worldwide continue to attract players with big-money offers.
