On August 14, 2025, the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) achieved a remarkable milestone by performing 14 Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedures in a single day, setting a new world record. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 13 TAVIs performed in one day in Serbia, as reported by PIC spokesperson Riffat Anjum .

The procedures were conducted on elderly patients, aged between 70 and 80, who were not suitable candidates for open-heart surgery. TAVI is a minimally invasive procedure that involves replacing a narrowed aortic valve without the need for open-heart surgery, offering a life-saving alternative for high-risk patients .()
