Pakistan and UK to enhance cooperation in trade and economy

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and United Kingdom have agreed to enhance cooperationin the areas of trade and economy.

The understanding came at a meeting between Advisor to Prime Minister onFinance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and BritishHigh Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew in Islamabad today (Wednesday).

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said Pakistan has longhistoric ties with United Kingdom and relations between the two countriesneeds to be further expended for the mutual benefits of the two sides.

He also briefed the envoy about the vision of the Prime Minister ofPakistan, saying his policies will lead to the social and economicdevelopment of the country.

The High Commissioner felicitated the Advisor on the assumption of chargeas Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance. He said that both countries enjoyexcellent relations and there is need to further promote their economicrelations.

He informed that the British Airways would be coming to Pakistan in Junethis year.

Later, the Asian Development Bank Country Director for Pakistan, Ms.Xiaohong Yang, also called on the Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance,Revenue and Economic Affairs.

They discussed new financing for various programmes and developmentprojects.
