KARACHI – Timely response of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Tugs and Pilotsaverted a major disaster as the hawsers of various ships berthed at KPT gotparted due to an impact of sudden high speed winds of 45-50 Knots.To name a few, MV HYUNDAI MERCURY berthed at South Wharf, had all its sternropes parted but ship managed to hold on to its head ropes and anchor tillthe arrival of KPT Tugs and Pilots, said a press releaseon Monday.Immediate actions by Master of the ship, Capt. Deliu Valentin, were highlyprofessional in prevailing situation, which saved the ship from danger ofgroundings.On the parallel, timely and speedy response by KPT Pilots and Tugs helpedsubstantially in controlling the situation and bringing back the ship toberth safely.Another ship M.V. MISKI moored at harbour was also timely assisted by tugboats which helped in securing back to its position.It was the alertness of Crisis Management Centre and timely professionalresponse of KPT Pilots & Tugs, which prevented a disaster happening at KPT.Federal Minister of Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi was informed aboutthe situation continuously by Chairman KPT.The minister highly appreciated the response by KPT Management Team.
