ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s top military brass has warned the internationalcommunity that incidents like India’s missile firing may jeopardizeregional peace.
According to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations,the corps commanders met in Rawalpindi at the General Headquarters andcalled on the international community that such dangerous incidents couldact as a trigger and seriously endanger regional peace and strategicstability.
Presided over by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the corpscommanders were given a comprehensive briefing on important global andregional developments, the internal security situation in the country, andprogress on ‘Western Border Management Regime’.
Officials reviewed with concern, the recent incident of missile firing,claimed as accidental by India, which could have resulted in a majordisaster, the military media wing said.
It was emphasised that despite Indian acknowledgment of the mistake,relevant international forums must take a serious view of the incident andsubject the safety and security protocols of Indian strategic assets todeliberate oversight.
Modi-led Indian government took 48 hours to confirm the mistake and onlyafter Pakistan went public with all the details about the missile landingon its side. Meanwhile, Islamabad has sought a joint probe into the missilefiasco that could have led to a major disaster between the two countries.
Top Pakistani commander also lauded successful ongoing counter-terrorismoperations, and expressed resolve to take all requisite measures to ensurethe security of the country.
Gen Bajwa directed that comprehensive security measures be ensured forpeaceful conduct of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting and PakistanDay Parade. Gen Qamar also appreciated operational preparedness of theformations and emphasised on mission-oriented training.
The upcoming OIC foreign ministers conference in Islamabad and Pakistan DayParade is linked to the current political stalemate between the governmentand opposition parties.
