SRINAGAR: Pro India National Conference claimed that Indian Army is harassing Jammu residents by not allowing them to do any construction work.
NC said “Around 4,000 families living near the ammunition depot in Jandrah area of Nagrota in Jammu district who have leased their land to the Army are being harassed by them as they are not allowed any type of construction.”
The Army claimed that no construction can be done in the radius of one km around the ammunition depot under Defense Work Act of 1903.
NC official claimed that the army has taken their land at lease in 1964 and is paying a very low compensation.
He said “Even today the Army is paying Rs. 500 per kanal of land and that too has not been paid from three years.”
He also demanded to relocate the ammunition depot so that people could construct houses there.
