DAMASCUS: Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that the first Russian fighter jet group has left Syria as per Putin’s announced withdrawal plan.
He claimed that group included Sukhoi-34 fighter jets which left Russia’s Hmeymim air base in Syria.
The withdrawal started amid the ongoing process of Syrian peace talks in Geneva.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria on Monday.
Putin didn’t announce that how many troops will be withdrawn from Syria.
Russia has intervened for last six months in Syria’s civil war and played a crucial role to support Assad’s regime.
Putin said “The effective work of our military created the conditions for the start of peace process. I believe that task put before the defence ministry and Russian armed forces have, on the whole, been fulfilled.”
Putin claimed that their main motive has been achieved in Syria and now its time to go back.
UK based Syrian Observatory for Human rights claimed that Russian airstrikes killed at least 4,408 people including 1,733 civilians in six months intervention.
UN envoy Staffan de Mistura struggled hard for peace talks which were postponed in February.
More than 260,000 people have been died in the last 5 years old civil war and half population of the country has left their homes.
Turkey and other regional countries are hosting millions of Syrian refugees.
