Pakistan summons top Indian diplomat and registers strong protest

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan summoned on Saturday a senior diplomat from the HighCommission of India to register a protest over the recent ceasefireviolation by India across the Line of Control (LoC).

Indian troops violated the ceasefire by targeting the Nezapir andRakhchikri Sectors on February 14. Due to Indian troops’ unprovoked firinga 13-year-old Abida Jamal of Fatehpur village, sustained serious injuries.

According to a press release by the Foreign Office (FO), Indian forces havecontinuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire,heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons along the LoC and WorkingBoundary. This year India has committed 287 ceasefire violations to date,the statement read.

The FO statement further said that these violations by India are a threatto ‘regional peace and security and may lead to a strategicmiscalculation’. “The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas isindeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rightsand humanitarian laws,” the statement said.

Pakistan urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire and instructedthem to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit and maintain peace onthe LoC and the Working Boundary.
