KABUL – According to the Afghanistan provincial police chief NezamuddinQaisari, the Taliban attacked a check post on Tuesday night and seizedcontrol of the facility after killing four policemen.
He said after this attack, local police and public uprising forces launchedan operation to retake the check post and secure others in the area. Hesaid the Taliban retreated from the area after 23 insurgents were killed.
Qaisari stated security forces also seized weapons belonging to theinsurgents.
The police chief claimed that the attack had been carried out by about1,000 insurgents who had hoped to seize control of the other check posts.
“Four police, three public uprising forces and 23 Taliban insurgents werekilled during the clashes,” he said.
Meanwhile, Faryab Ulema announced their support to security forces butcriticized government for not having what they called a proper securityplan in place for the province.
