NEW DELHI – Over 200 Indian Army troops trapped in Occupied Kashmir nearLoC with Pakistan.
200 Indian army troops were rescued and taken to safe shelters as a seriesof snow slides hit the Khanzalwan area of Gurez sector close to the Line ofControl in North Kashmir.
Over the past 48 hours there has been unprecedented heavy snowfall in thehigher reaches of Gurez, Bandipur, Kupwara, Naugaon and Baramula areas ofNorth Kashmir where the army is deployed, India Today has reported.
The lowest temperature reported in areas of deployment is – 57 degrees inNorth Glacier, Siachen.
Over 32 snow slides have been reported in the vicinity of army posts in thelast 48 hours. Alert well-rehearsed drills have saved numerous lives andloss to property, said an army officer.
Other than Kanzalwan area of Gurez where soldiers were taken to safety, inTangdhar Sector, seven soldiers who came under a snow slide were safelyrescued by alert soldiers of the rescue team.
Similarly, in the Gulmarg sector a group of soldiers whose shelter cameunder a snow slide was safely rescued.
In the Naogaon sector, four BSF personnel affected by a snow slide wasrescued however one constable suffered a cardiac arrest and succumbed.
In another major snow slide in the Machhil Sector, dedicated rescue teamsare currently engaged in the rescue of five soldiers out of which foursoldiers have been pulled out of snow.
One soldier is stable, one critical and two soldiers are non-responsive forwhom expert medical care is hampered due to inclement weather. Search forone soldier is still in progress as per the last report, said an armyofficial.
