LAHORE: (APP) Punjab Government to tremendously increase IT Exports
Government of Punjab has reaffirmed its resolve to facilitate the IT industry and aims to increase Pakistan's IT exports from $3 billion to $10 billion in the next 5 years.
This was announced by Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman, Punjab Information Technology Board and Vice Chancellor IT University, at the 2nd PITB Round Table Conference held by Tech Hub Connect at the Arfa Software Technology Park, said a handout issued here.
Dr. Umar Saif apprised the participants that the government is committed to enable the IT industry grow further.
This is reflected in Punjab Government's decision to withdraw the 19.5% tax on Broadband internet, to support IT and IT Enabled Services.
He said that the government has also established a state of the art Information Technology University, to promote cutting edge research and develop quality human resource for the IT industry.
Dr. Umar Saif announced that PITB is also launching the Digital Punjab Campaign, to enhance Pakistan's image abroad and attract foreign investment in the country.
He further stated that PITB is in the process of finalizing a comprehensive ICT policy for Punjab, in collaboration with the IT industry and academia, which will create an enabling environment for the IT sector to flourish.
The participants at the conference included top executives from more than 150 IT Companies, academia and officials from Punjab Revenue Authority, Federal Ministry of Commerce and Punjab Board of Investment and Trade.
PRA officials assured the attendees that Punjab will continue with a zero tax policy for IT exports.
Furthermore, officials from PBIT also reaffirmed government's commitment to help the IT industry and welcomed Dr. Umar Saif's suggestion of establishing special economic zones for the IT industry.
