ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday has submitted recommendations regarding fair and transparent elections in Supreme Court (SC).

In a summary, ECP has suggested complete ban on rallies, billboards, pamphlets, posters and wall chalking on the occasion of elections.

It has also been mentioned that permission should not be granted to candidates to run electoral campaign on private channels whereas giving transportation to the candidates should also be forbidden.

The participants should only be allowed to express their views on state channel while they would only be permitted to hold corner meetings.

ECP official told the court that these sanctions are needed to hold fair and transparent elections in the country upon which, Justice Azmat Saeed resented and said that the proposal given by ECP is not appropriate.

He also directed to take all the political parties into confidence over the suggestions prepared for electoral reforms.

Subsequently, the court has adjourned the hearing for indefinite time period. Earlier, Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) had expressed resentment over the dysfunctional condition of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) due to retirement of as many as four officials.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that the appointment of new officials should be made as early as possible as the department has become dysfunctional after the retirement of senior personnel.
