Govt to declare literacy emergency in country: Shafqat

Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood says the government is preparing a plan to declare literacy emergency in the country.

Talking to APP, he said the aim of literacy emergency is to increase literacy rate from fifty eight to seventy percent by next four years.

Shafqat Mahmood said in order to achieve the task, the education ministry has prepared a plan to launch country-wide “National Literacy Campaign”.

He said under the campaign, five thousand literacy and skills development centers would be established in all districts of the four provinces.

The Minister said a National Coordination Center at national level would also be set up to create consensus among all stake holders regarding the literacy campaign.
