ISLAMABAD – *Pakistan Navy seeks big firepower boost with submarine fleetfrom friendly ally country.*

The first vessel in the Pakistan Naval Forces ‘Agosta 90B Class SubmarineModernization Project’ will be launched in coming days.

Murat İkinci, STM’s general manager, told *Anadolu Agency* that Pakistangranted the ‘Agosta 90B Class Submarine Modernization Project’ to a Turkishcompany since it had confidence in the progress and engineering experiencethat Turkey has achieved in this regard. “Hopefully, by the end of thismonth, we are will complete the outfitting of our first ship and launch itand begin its tests, including diving tests,” he said.

Back in March, Turkish firm STM signed a contract to enhance capabilitiesof Pakistan Navy’s Agosta 90B Submarines. The company was to modernize fourPakistani submarines.

The Agosta-class submarine is a class of diesel-electric fast-attacksubmarine developed and constructed in France to succeed the Daphnésubmarines.

“Pakistan also aims to modernize three submarines in its inventory. We canclearly say that we will sign the contract as a result of the success ofthe first vessel. We do not think there will be any setbacks here,”informed Murat.

As per the report, KAŞİF, the geographic information system (GIS) softwaredeveloped by Turkish weapons manufacturer HAVELSAN, is being used in theinfrastructure of the Command and Control System of Pakistan’s submarine.Meanwhile, the Sonar Integrated Submarine Command Control System (SEDA),developed by HAVELSAN, is also being integrated into the Agosta 90Bsubmarine, making it Turkey’s first export item in this field as well.

Moreover, ASELSAN’s Zargana Torpedo Countermeasures System has also beenused in the modernized Agosta 90B submarine of the Pakistan Navy.
