Pakistan allows two Afghan airlines to operate from Islamabad to Kabul

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has allowed two Afghan airlines to operate its flightsfrom Islamabad to Kabul, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials said.

Reports in local media said the Civil Aviation Authority on Saturdayallowed two Afghanistan airlines – Ariana Afghan Airlines (AAA) and Kam Air(KA) – to operate in Pakistan after the air transport department approvedthe operations.

Ariana Afghan Airlines has been allowed to operate two flights a week,while Kam Air can operate five flights.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani authorities also allowed the arrival and departureof 1,000 passengers from the neighboring country in a week. The Nerobodyaircraft will only be allowed to land in the country’s federal capitalwhile White Body 777 and Airbus 340 will get a nod after an agreementbetween the two sides.

Reports further claimed that the Taliban-led Afghanistan has soughtpermission from Civil Aviation Authority for flight operation from Kabul,Mazar-e-Sharif, and Kandahar to seaside metropolis Karachi. Meanwhile, nosuch permission has been granted as of now.

Earlier, PIA CEO Arshad Malik said the national carrier is only runningchartered flights to the Afghan capital.

“War insurance charges are one of the hindrances in resuming regularflights to the Afghan capital,” he said while adding that there aresecurity and radar issues at the Kabul airport as well.

Pakistan state-owned airline suspended its flights to Kabul in October over‘inappropriate behavior’ of the Civil Aviation Authority of Afghanistan andthe Taliban government despite that it was the first airline to operate thefirst international flight to Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover.
