More Military Officers to be posted in civil departments on deputation basis: report

The process of appointing currently serving military officers within theNational Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recommenced as the anti-corruptionagency deals with an increased workload.

Four senior army officials have been added to NAB shortly before theappointment of the deputy chairman and prosecutor general. According tonotifications from the Establishment Division dated October 10, BrigMohammad Khalid (Infantry) has been designated as a director (BS-20), LtCol Nadeem Muzaffar (Intelligence Staff College) has joined as anadditional director (BS-19), Maj Waleed Khalid (Military Intelligence) andMaj Qais Kamran Syed (MI) have both been appointed as deputy directors(BS-18) on a secondment basis.

These officers are to remain at NAB until further instructions. It’santicipated that more military officers may be brought into NAB soon. TheSupreme Court nullified amendments to the NAB law made by the PDMgovernment, resulting in the reopening of over 1,800 cases.

However, NAB faced a shortage of officers to handle the increased caseload,as more than 30 NAB officers had been sent to other departments ondeputation over the past 10 months.

Following the departure of these deputation officers, there was a demandfor personnel in the areas of forensic audit, investigation, and taxmatters. NAB’s Intelligence and Vigilance Cell (IVC) was previously led bya serving intelligence officer, but several officers who were serving ondeputation were returned to their parent departments after the governmentreduced the watchdog’s authority.

Sources have revealed that in coming days more military officers would beposted in NAB on deputation basis.
