Despite UK government refusal, Ishaq Dar is not out of danger: Report

LONDON – The British government on Thursday rejected a petition toextradite former finance minister Ishaq Dar, citing the reason that it hasno formal extradition treaty with Pakistan.

The statement said that the UK has no formal extradition treaty withPakistan. Section 194 of the extradition Act 2003 does allow specialextradition arrangements in exceptional circumstances.

However, under current law, an extradition process is initiated at therequest of the government of the country in which the individual has beenconvicted of the crime.

It would therefore be the Pakistani Government’s responsibility to initiatesuch proceedings.
