80 thousand people submit petition against Ishaq Dar in London

LONDON – More than 80 thousand internet users have submitted petitionagainst Pakistan former finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

A number of allegations against Ishaq Dar were levelled in the petition.

However the British government, in a statement, rejected these allegationsand made it clear that the petition will not be entertained.

A written statement issued by the petitions team of UK government andparliament said: “We rejected the petition you supported – “Deportabsconder Pakistan’s Ex-Finance Minister Ishaq Dar back to Pakistan.”

The UK government’s petitions team told the petitioners that the Britainhas no formal extradition treaty with Pakistan. “Section 194 of theExtradition Act 2003 does allow special extradition arrangements inexceptional circumstances.

However, under current law, an extradition process is initiated at therequest of the government of the country in which the individual has beenconvicted of a crime.

It would therefore be the Pakistani government’s responsibility to initiatesuch proceedings.”

The petitions committee said it reviewed the online petition after getting10,000 signatures for its consideration but rejected it on technical andlegal grounds.
