In a chilling escalation of insurgent activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,militants launched a series of coordinated attacks over just 24 hours,resulting in five police officers killed and seven injured, officialsconfirmed. These attacks occurred in Upper Dir, Lower Dir (Lajbok), andPeshawar.
The deadliest assault took place in Upper Dir, where militants ambushed apolice van early Thursday, killing three officers and wounding seven in abrutal attack on a routine patrol.
Simultaneously, in the Lajbok area of Lower Dir, extremists targeted apolice checkpoint, claiming the life of one constable. Another attack inthe Hassan Khel suburb of Peshawar saw armed militants opening fire on apolice station. The exchange of gunfire left one officer killed and anotherinjured.
Though two additional overnight attacks were reported in Bannu, theyfortunately did not result in casualties.
These waves of violence coincided with an ongoing, yet unannounced,security operation in Bajaur aimed at dismantling militant safe havens. Theoperation has triggered massive civilian displacement—approximately 100,000people—and has already resulted in civilian casualties, including a tragicmortar strike that claimed the lives of a mother and two children.——————————
