In a first, Afghanistan seems on right track with Pakistan

KABUL – Afghan government leaders are optimistic about the implementationof the Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS)and that it will help to ease tension between Kabul and Islamabad.

The Presidential Palace said the president’s recent talks with Pakistanimilitary officials, including his meeting with Pakistan’s Army ChiefGeneral Qamar Javid Bajwa on Monday in Kabul, have been effective.

“Effective and important talks with Pakistan helps us to find logicalsolutions for historical and fundamental problems,”President Ashraf Ghani’s deputy spokesman Shahussain Murtazawi said.

According to government, thedifference between Monday’s meeting and previous meetings was that the twosides agreed not to repeat “mistaken” politics.

“Mr. Bajwa clearly said that the continuance of mistaken politics isneither in Afghanistan nor in Pakistan’s favor and politics should changein line with cases,” said Omid Maisam, deputy spokesman for Chief ExecutiveAbdullah Abdullah.

“Priorities should be defined when Pakistan wants to help us in peace andsecurity. It should be defined as to what Pakistan wants and whatAfghanistan wants from Pakistan,” said Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, the formerdeputy minister of interior.
