Tehran, May 13, IRNA – Recent explosions in UAE’s port might be sabotage bythird parties whose interests are secured when the region is unsecure, asenior Iranian lawmaker said Monday.
Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, the head of Majlis national security andforeign policy commission, tweeted on Sunday that the explosion in port ofFujairah indicated that to what extent security of the Persian Gulf isfragile.
Media reported on Sunday that strong explosions rocked the port with sometankers ablaze. The Emirati authorities at first denied the report, butlater they confirmed it.
Talking to IRNA, the Iranian lawmaker explained that ‘when the states southof Persian Gulf turn the region into a military zone, they are those whoare hurt the most.’
Iran has signed cooperation agreements with most of countries in the regionon the Persian Gulf security, he said, adding that no country has been morecommitted to the regional security than Iran.
Emphasizing that the Persian Gulf should be a safe region, Falahatpishehsaid that he had warned that the third parties might disrupt the securityin the region to push the situation toward a conflict.
He went on to say that Iran and the US could manage the crisis on theirown, but there are third parties that might stir up tension through their’deviating moves’.
The lawmaker said that he sees a hotline between Tehran and Washington asnecessary to enable them to manage developments so that no third partiescould take advantage of the situation.
Iran condemned the sabotage and has urged to hold inquiry to identify theperpetrators, he said.
The recent developments came amid high tensions between Iran and the US,after Iran announced that it suspended some parts of the nuclear dealbecause its interests were damaged due to the US unilateral withdrawal andinactive European signatories.
