Former Pakistan Military General hits out at America for sanctions against Iranian IRGC

ISLAMABAD – A senior Pakistani defense analyst said the US move to labelthe Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization isunjustified and has no reason.

In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), LieutenantGeneral (Retd) Amjad Shoaib said the US by taking such actions is trying toexert pressure on Iran.

US President Donald Trump on Monday officially designated the IslamicRevolution Guard Corps a terrorist group.

The IRGC is a major part of Iran’s official Armed Forces, and the movesparked fierce reactions by Iranian officials.

Amjad Shoaib said the US act is absolutely unjustified, has no grounds, noreasoning. He added that it is very unfortunate that without any evidenceagainst the IRGC they have taken this decision.

‘This is all high headedness of a country and the world is quite on that,’said the analyst.

The expert suggested Iran to challenge this US move either in internationalcourt of justice or in the United Nations.

‘This move is totally unjustified, there is no reason, there are noallegations against the IRGC or anybody in Iran,’ said the former threestar general of Pakistani army.

He said: ‘I think the IRGC has an excellent conduct; Americans have beenleveling baseless allegations about IRGC’s role in Middle East.

‘We have not seen any intervention by the IRGC in Iraq or Syria, I thinkthe US has taken the decision to pressurize Iran,’ Amjad Shoaib viewed.

He said there is lot of hypocrisy in the international community and theyhave their own vested interests.

Expressing his views, the analyst said Iran should consult India, Russia,China and Pakistan and jointly take some action against the Americanforces.

“There could be two types of actions; either Iran blacklists some of theAmerican entities or some of the regional countries like Pakistan, China,India, Russia join hands with Iran and they declare that they do not agreewith what Americans have done with IRGC,” he noted.

He said that regional countries should support Iran to dilute the Americanaction.
