ISLAMABAD – Top Pakistani Journalist Hamid Mir fetched reason behindChina’s move to block listing of Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. Hecompared Azhar to Tibetan spiritual lead Dalai Lama.
China prevented another bid to list Masood Azhar, the head ofPakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), as a global terroristin the UN Security Council committee. This is the fourth time China hasblocked such a bid in the committee.
India had pushed the latest bid to blacklist Azhar after JeM attacked aCRPF convoy in Pulwama last month. The February 14 attack that killed atleast 40 paramilitary personnel was the deadliest in Kashmir.
The United States, Britain, and France asked the Security Council’s IslamicState and al Qaeda sanctions committee to subject JeM founder Masood Azharto an arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze. The 15-member committeeoperates by consensus.
China placed a “technical hold” on the request, according to a note fromits U.N. mission to the committee, seen by Reuters. China gave no reasonfor the hold, which places the request in limbo.
While it is clear that China has blocked the move to please its all-weatherfriend Pakistan.
Hamid Mir explained China’s move to block listing of Masood Azhar as globalterrorist as a response to India giving shelter to Dalai Lama.
After China put a techincal hold on the listing of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist at United Nations Security Council(UNSC), Pakistan journalist Hamid Mir took to Twitter and explaine ‘therationale’ behind the move.
He tweeted, “It’s very easy to understand why China blocked resolutionagainst Masood Azhar in UNSC? India sheltering an enemy of China sincedecades and his name is Dalai Lama”
