Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan historic address to Pakistani Parliament, throws unconditional support over Kashmir and FATF

ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday vowedunflinching support for Pakistan on the issues related to anti-terrorfinancing and the illegal annexation of occupied Kashmir by India. TheTurkish president made the remarks while addressing a joint session of theparliament.

In his address to the Upper and Lower House of the legislature, Erdogansaid that he was thankful and happy to have had the opportunity to addressthe joint session of the parliament in Pakistan. “I am thankful for thisopportunity. I am thankful to each of you individually for allowing me toaddress this joint session of Parliament,” he said.

Erdogan further thanked the Pakistani people and leadership over the warmwelcome he was accorded upon arrival. “It is my pleasure to speak to you. Iam thankful to you for giving me the opportunity to address this house.”“While in Pakistan, I feel like I am at home,” he said.’Pakistan’s pain is our pain’

“Today, Pakistan and Turkey’s relations are admirable for others. Duringdifficult times, Pakistan has supported Turkey,” Erdogan added. “Ourfriendship is based on love and respect. Pakistan’s pain is our pain,” theTurkish president remarked.

Speaking about the issue of occupied Kashmir, the Turkish president saidthat Indian-occupied Kashmir meant to Turkey exactly what it had meant toPakistan over the years. “The relationship between Pakistan and Turkey willcontinue in the future like it has in the past,” he added.

In his speech, the Turkish president also said that Turkey had supportedPakistan on matters related to counter terrorism. “We assure Pakistan ofTurkey’s support at the Financial Action Task Force,” Erdogan said.

“The positive steps taken by Pakistan with regards to investment and tradeare improving conditions for business in the country. Economic progress isnot achieved in a few days, but takes constant effort,” the Turkishpresident said.

The Turkish president had earlier reached the parliament house to addressthe joint session of the parliament. Prime Minster Imran Khan greeted theTurkish president on his arrival at the Parliament House.

Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Speaker of the National Assembly AsadQaiser, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, and other top officials, including theservice chiefs of the armed forces, were also present on the occasion.
