KUNDUZ: Taliban gunmen killed nine police and wounded eight others in theImam Sahib district of Kunduz province, officials said Saturday. TheTaliban fighters attacked two police posts in the Joyee Begum area of ImamSahib district last night, said Mahboobullah Saeedi, administrator of thesame district.
The ensuing clash lasted for several hours, leaving five police dead andanother five wounded, he told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), adding theTaliban also suffered casualties but they had no accurate count. He saidnational and local police were among the dead and wounded.
Chairman of Kunduz’s provincial council Muhammad Yousaf Ayubi, however,told AIP that nine police were killed and eight more wounded in theattacks.
The attack was carried out in an area recently cleared by Afghan forces.Earlier, local residents said the attack left eight police dead and upto 10more wounded.
