The Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Maqbool Baqar, has imposed a ban on arms licenses in the province. This directive was issued by the Interior secretary at the behest of the caretaker Chief Minister.
The notification outlines that the ban will apply to the issuance of arms licenses from both district commissioner offices and the interior ministry. This decision comes in response to recent developments, specifically the use of new weapons by criminals in street crimes and targeted killings over the past three months.
Investigations have uncovered a concerning trend: the bullets recovered from crime scenes in recent major incidents do not match the weapons used in previous offenses.
Furthermore, the network engaged in arms smuggling and the rental of weapons remains active, as per investigation sources.
Both the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the police have faced challenges in completing their investigations related to the recent surge in street crimes and targeted killings.
