70 lakh drug addicts in Pakistan, numbers on rise: experts

FAISALABAD: Experts at a seminar on Thursday stressed the need for enhancing efforts to root out the menace of drug addiction from the society as 7 million people in the country are drug addicts and the number is increasing day by day.

They were addressing awareness seminar on "Impact of Drug Abuse" organized by Yong Development Corps, Senior Tutor Office, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) at Iqbal Auditorium UAF here Thursday. It was attended by hundreds of the students.

UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar said that drug addiction was playing havoc with the lives of people and there was a need to create awareness among the masses about the menace.

He said the University had taken tangible steps for zero tolerance against drug addiction at the campus. He said that smoking and sale of cigarette had been strictly banned.

Noted psychiatrist Dr Asif Bajwa and Senior Tutor Dr Ather  Javed also spoke on the occasion.
