ISLAMABAD - Authorities have decided to divert the plane carrying deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam to Islamabad airport, concerning security threats in Lahore.
Nawaz is expected to arrive in Pakistan later on Friday as authorities took measures to contain PML-N’s welcoming rally expected to move towards Lahore airport. Nawaz and daughter Maryam will be arrested by the authorities on arrival.
Authorities are then expected to shift the two in a helicopter to Islamabad and then onwards to Adiala jail.
Nawaz was sentenced in absentia last week to 10 years in prison by a corruption court over the purchase of high-end properties in London, dealing a serious blow to his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party’s bid weeks ahead of the July 25 polls.
