MULTAN: (APP) The 85th birth anniversary of acclaimed Urdu poet, Ahmad Faraz, was celebrated at the Department of Urdu, Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), on Thursday.
Chairperson Dr Aqeela Bashir told APP here that Faraz was the poet of youth and the public. She said Ahmad Faraz and Parveen Shakir are still alive in the hearts of poetry-lovers.
She said that Faraz represented the wishes and impulses of the youth in his poetry. Faraz experimented in poetry and was well aware of needs of the modern age.
Syed Ahmad Shah, known to the world as Ahmad Faraz, was born in Kohat on January 12, 1931, and he belonged to the Sufi family of Haji Bahadur. 14 of his poetry collections were published during his literary journey, out of which 'Pas-Andaaz, 'Mausam', 'Sab Awazain Meri Hain', 'Khuwab Gul Pareshaan Hain', 'Janan Janan' and 'Ghazal Bahana Karon' are famous.
He died on August 25, 2008 in Islamabad.
