Football match stopped in Germany to let Muslim footballer break his fast

A football match link between two German football clubs – Augsburg vs. Mainz – was stopped to let a Muslim footballer break his fast. The match was played on April 6 in the WWK Arena in Augsburg, Germany.

The match between the two German clubs ended in 2-1 with the home team – Augsburg – winning all the three points. In the 65th minute of the game, the play was stopped as it was the time for Iftar.

The Mainz centre-back Moussa Niakhaté was spotted breaking his fast with his teammate Robin Zentner helping him hold the drinks for him. The Muslim footballer also thanked the referee for stoping the play for him.

Moussa Niakhaté is a French professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Bundesliga club Mainz 05. Last week, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema was also reported to have observed his fast before netting a hat-trick against Chelsea in their all important Champions League clash.
