Syrian government hold elections in government controlled areas to form the new 250 member parliament despite peace talks in Geneva.
Syria’s deputy foreign minister Faisal Mekdad claimed it is a clear message to opposition and international community that Assad still has no plan to quit which will be unacceptable.
The move was criticized by US and international community.
US State Department official Mark Toner claimed that the elections are premature and they didn’t represent the will of Syrian people.
French President Francois Hollande said “the idea that there could be elections is not just provocative but totally unrealistic. It would be proof that there are no negotiations or discussions [in Geneva].”
The elections are being held at that time when Syria peace talks are expected to resume.
Syria is passing through a truce that was implemented after five years of the war that killed more than 260,000 people and dispersed the half population of the country.
