In a surprise, PTI government forced to shutdown the official social media cell

ISLAMABAD – In a surprise, PTI government forced to shutdown the officialsocial media cell.

On Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf led federal government announcedto shut down the social media cell it had set up just six months ago.According to the reports, the government did not have enough funds at itsdisposal to pay the salaries of the employees at the social media cell.

On the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, a social media cell wasestablished at the Press Information Department (PID) with the aim to curbthe spread of fake news and issue verified information to the citizens.

However, the government has decided to shut down its social media cell andfire all serving employees with immediate effect.

Some of the fired employees argued that their services have been terminatedwithout any prior notice. The government is yet to pay the salaries of theprevious two months, said an employee.

Reports claim that some renowned social media activists and volunteers ofPTI have emerged as the front runners to lead the social media cell in theimmediate future.
