WASHINGTON – The US State Department in its annual report 2018 on religiousfreedom has noted that religious freedom conditions continued a downwardtrend in India and the country’s multi-religious society remainedthreatened by Hindutva forces.
The report said various nationalist groups in India have adopted theideology of Hindutva which has three pillars, common nation, race, andculture.
During the year, Hindu-nationalist groups sought to ‘Saffronize’ Indiathrough violence, intimidation, and harassment against non-Hindus and HinduDalits.
Reports further said members of the BJP have affiliations with Hinduextremist groups and many have used discriminatory language about religiousminorities.
