IAF Su-30MKI Makes Emergency Landing at Dehradun, Narrowly Escapes Crash

On Monday morning, a fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF), theSu-30MKI, made an emergency landing at the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradunafter the pilot reported a technical snag mid-flight during a sortie fromBareilly Air Force Station. The aircraft landed safely and no injuries ordamage to civil aircraft were reported.

According to airport officials, the jet experienced an oil leak from one ofits engines during the flight, prompting the pilot to divert to Dehradun asa precaution.Following the landing, the aircraft has remained grounded for more than 24hours as a team of IAF engineers work to diagnose and rectify the fault.

Airport Director Bhupesh C.H. Negi confirmed that the fighter jet wasparked in a secure area near the VIP guest house on the airfield, and thatroutine civil flight operations at the airport were not disrupted.

The IAF has not publicly disclosed further details about the aircraft’sregistration or the full extent of the fault, but sources say that once therepair and inspection are complete, the jet may depart by Wednesday.

This incident underscores both the risks inherent in military aviation andthe high level of pilot alertness and procedural readiness — the outcomecould have been far more serious had the situation not been managed soastutely.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the malfunctionand the jet will remain grounded until all safety protocols and technicalchecks are cleared.
