Islamabad High Court seeks reply over the petition against Presidential Ordinance

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday sought a reply fromall the parties on petition filed against the Presidential ordinances.

IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition ofPakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) MNA Mohsin Ranjha challenging promulgationof ordinances by President Dr Arif Alvi.

During the hearing, Mohsin Ranjha said that the government passed eightPresidential Ordinances, saying, “We have not challenged ordinance butchallenged the way of passing these ordinances.”

Chief Justice Athar Minallah asked why the fair laws being challenged inthe court. “It is the duty of the parliament to address the problems ofpeople,” the chief justice remarked.

“The court has many other things to do, keep the courts away from politicalproblems,” Justice Athar Minallah further said. “Unfortunately mostlyordinances were passed in dictatorial rule,” the top judge said.

“Legislation is the work of those sitting in the parliament,” the Justicesaid.

The bench issued notices to president, prime minister, Law Ministryincluding the Attorney General of Pakistan and all other parties in thecase.
