The Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Maqbool Baqar, has imposed a ban onarms licenses in the province. This directive was issued by the Interiorsecretary at the behest of the caretaker Chief Minister.
The notification outlines that the ban will apply to the issuance of armslicenses from both district commissioner offices and the interior ministry. This decision comes in response to recent developments, specifically theuse of new weapons by criminals in street crimes and targeted killings overthe past three months.
Investigations have uncovered a concerning trend: the bullets recoveredfrom crime scenes in recent major incidents do not match the weapons usedin previous offenses.
Furthermore, the network engaged in arms smuggling and the rental ofweapons remains active, as per investigation sources.
Both the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the police have facedchallenges in completing their investigations related to the recent surgein street crimes and targeted killings.
