Chinese owned app TikTok leadership held important meeting with Pakistan PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Chinese-owned appTikTok’s senior management held a virtual meeting days after thevideo-sharing app was banned in Pakistan.

In a press release, the PTA said that TikTok held the meeting with theauthority in an effort to have meaningful engagement with PTA,and incompliance with instructions of the authority with respect to moderatingthe unlawful online content in accordance with laws of Pakistan’.

TikTok highlighted the efforts that were taken and also shared a futurestrategy on how to improve content moderation keeping in mind Pakistan’slaws. Acknowledging TikTok’s efforts, the PTA chairman asked for tangibletimelines for the proposed actions.

The press release added that both sides have resolved to continue theirengagement to arrive at a mutually acceptable mechanism ‘to continue toprovide safe internet experience to the users in Pakistan’.

On Friday, PTA banned TikTok for promoting immoral, objectionable content.The decision was taken in view of the number of complaints from differentsegments of the society against immoral/indecent content on TikTok, PTAsaid.
