Afghan Taliban made a big demand from US against release of two American professors held hostages

KABUL – Afghan Taliban made a big demand from US for release of twoAmerican professors held hostage, Afghan media has reported.

The two sides have discussed the swap of prisoners. Taliban demanding therelease of Anas Haqqani, a high-profile member of the Haqqani network, inexchange for two American professors, who were kidnapped in Afghanistan in2016.

The U.S. and Taliban representatives have begun discussing ways to resumethe Afghan peace talks, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday quotingpeople familiar with the discussions, Ariana News has reported.

According to the report, the issue was discussed during a meeting betweenthe Taliban representatives and U.S. Special Representative for AfghanistanReconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad in Pakistan earlier this month.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated on the withdrawal ofAmerican troops from Afghanistan.

Trump added that U.S. troops were supposed to be in Afghanistan for “ashort period of time” but they have remained in Afghanistan for close to 19years.

“It’s time to bring them home,” he said recently.
