Washington – US Treasury Secretary Scott Bassett has strongly criticizedIndia for what he described as its persistent intransigence during tradetalks with Washington, saying that New Delhi’s stance has made it difficultto finalize agreements.
In an interview with foreign media, Bassett revealed that trade deals withseveral countries, including Switzerland and India, remain pending. Heexpressed hope that the Trump administration would strive to conclude thesenegotiations by the end of October this year, but added that India’sapproach remained the biggest obstacle.
The Treasury Secretary also disclosed that in the next two to three months,US officials are expected to hold an important meeting with their Chinesecounterparts. The discussions will focus on enhancing economic cooperationand shaping a future roadmap for bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce commented on recenttensions between Pakistan and India, stating that the situation could havedeteriorated severely. However, she credited timely diplomatic efforts bythe US leadership for averting potential disaster.
Bruce further emphasized that the United States maintains strong relationswith both Pakistan and India, and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment topromoting peace and stability in the region.
