Occupied Kashmir facing worst humanitarian crisis in modern history

ISLAMABAD – Occupied Kashmir is facing the worst humanitarian crisis inmodern human history as strict curfew along with all communication blackoutentered its ninth day today.

Indian troops clamped tight restrictions across Jammu and Kashmir, fearinganti-India protests, after New Delhi abolished the special status of Jammuand Kashmir on August 5.

The people of occupied territory have no contact with the rest of the worldas internet and phone lines are cut since then.

A famine-like situation is emerging as tens of thousands of Indian troopsare deployed in all streets right from Srinagar in the Kashmir valley toDoda and Kishtwar areas in Jammu region to maintain strict curfew.

The news sources, in their reports said shops are shut, their shutters andwalls are carrying anti-India graffiti including, “Go India Go Back” and“We Want Freedom”.

The troops, many wearing heavy riot gear, are dotting silent streets wherecheckpoints had been added with more concertina wire laid out to createbarricades.

In blatant disregard for the fundamental rights of Kashmiri people, IndianSupreme Court refused to pass any orders on a petition seeking lifting ofcurfew and communication blackout in occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the wakeof abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian government.

The petition filed by an activist Tehseen Poonawalla submitted that peoplewere not able to even avail basic services such as hospital.

However, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra adjourned thepetition for two weeks without passing any order.

Meanwhile, MDMK, a political party active in Tamil Nadu and other states ofIndia, has said that Kashmir will no longer remain with India in the next30 years.

MDMK chief Vaiko in a media interview in Chennai said Kashmir will not bein India when Delhi will celebrate its 100th year of freedom.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh referring to an international mediareport warned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shahand National Security Advisor Ajit Doval that Kashmir would slip out ofIndia’s hands through their thoughtless actions.

Another Congress leader P Chidambaram said that Modi government abrogatedArticle 370 because there is a Muslim majority in Kashmir.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Brinda Karat said that what theIndian government has done in Kashmir is nothing but the murder ofdemocracy.
