General (R) Pervaiz Musharraf takes final decision over SC appearance

LAHORE: Former president Pervez Musharraf has decided not to appear beforethe Supreme Court, Geo News reported citing sources, after the apexcourt orderedhim to return to Pakistan by 2pm on June 14.

The Supreme Court earlier today heard a case filed by Musharraf in 2015against the rejection of his nomination papers in the 2013 generalelections, at its Lahore Registry.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar ordered the former president to return tothe country by 2pm on Thursday. “The verdict will be announced incompliance with the law upon Musharraf’s failure to follow the orders,” heremarked.

The apex court noted that it was not bound to comply with any conditionsset forth by Musharraf.

“Musharraf was assured he would get protection but we are not bound toissue a written assurance to him,” observed Chief Justice Nisar.

The Supreme Court, on June 7, had ordered the former president to appearbefore it and assured he would not be arrested upon appearance.

Chief Justice Nisar had remarked that the apex court would pass an orderensuring authorities to not arrest Musharraf before his appearance in court.
