England, India to play Champions Trophy finals in case of rain in Semifinals

LONDON: England and India to qualify for the Finals of the Champions Trophy if the rain disrupts the two semifinals.

With England, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh making it to the semi-finals of ICC Champions Trophy 2017, all eyes will be on the two encounters that will decide the final two teams to play each other at the Oval on June 18.

It is worth mentioning here that the rules for the semi-final stage will be same as the previous editions of the tournamnet with the match going into the Super Over if it ends in a tie. However, no Super Over has ever been bowled in ODI cricket till date and will be the first time if any of semifinals end in a tie.

While considering the facts of how the weather interrupted in the Champions Trophy and unpredictablity of the England climate, the chances of the semi-finals ending in a washout cannot be forgone.

Moreover, something which really is worrisome for the diehards is that both the semis do not have a reserve day to continue and the possible rain could really spoil up the things in the semi-finals. In that case, the team that finished at the top of their group will automatically move forward.

In the first semi-final, England will be going to final in case of a washout as they finsihed at the top of Group A and Pakistan ended Group B as the no.2 team.

As far as the second semi-final is concerned, India will go in the case of a washout. It is also pertinent here to mention that the case also applies to the tied semi-finals where the Super Over can’t be contested owing to the weather conditions.
