A football matchlinkbetweentwo German football clubs – Augsburg vs. Mainz – was stopped to let aMuslim footballer break his fast. The match was played on April 6 in theWWK Arena in Augsburg, Germany.
The match between the two German clubs ended in 2-1 with the home team –Augsburg – winning all the three points. In the 65th minute of the game,the play was stopped as it was the time for Iftar.
The Mainz centre-back Moussa Niakhaté was spotted breaking his fast withhis teammate Robin Zentner helping him hold the drinks for him. The Muslimfootballer also thanked the referee for stoping the play for him.
Moussa Niakhaté is a French professional footballer who plays as acentre-back for Bundesliga club Mainz 05. Last week, Real Madrid’s KarimBenzema was also reported to have observed his fast before netting ahat-trick against Chelsea in their all important Champions League clash.
