ISLAMABAD – The United States and Taliban negotiators wrapped up fifthround of peace talks today without any agreement.

According to media reports, the talks are expected to resume in late thismonth. U.S. special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad is now expected to return to theUnited States to brief U.S. officials.

During talks, the U.S. has pressed the Taliban to declare a ceasefire whileTaliban leaders reiterated their demand of withdrawing of foreign troopsfrom Afghan soil.
